People often wonder how America has seen the rise of the LGBTQ agenda, socialism, and cancel culture in recent years. For those in the church who have not been able to effectively respond, it comes down to biblical literacy.

Alex McFarland recently joined the Truth & Liberty live cast with Andrew Wommack and Richard Harris to discuss a number of issues, including why having a biblical worldview is important.

Foundations of Apologetics

Alex is a world-renowned Christian apologist and regularly teaches biblical worldview classes at the main campus of Charis Bible College in Woodland Park, Colorado.

He took an interest in apologetics after being born-again as a 21-year-old college student and was faced with a number of challenging questions from his classmates. Though he read many good books by Christian authors, Alex found the best witness for faith in the Bible.

“The number one thing in trying to win my friends to Christ was the Word of God,” says Alex. “And I prayed that I could not only share the Gospel, but if there were questions, answer those questions.”

According to Alex, one of the key moments in his early ministry was reading 1 Peter 3:15, “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you.” In that verse is the Greek word apologia, which is where we get our modern word “apologetics” – the discipline of defending the Christian faith.

Building on a Biblical Worldview

There are a number of serious threats to Christianity, today, including evolution, moral relativism, atheism, and “enforced” secularism, says Alex.

“Some people say, ‘I don’t believe in those things, so why do I need to know this?’” says Andrew. “Well, for one thing, you are a witness, and you are either going to be convincing people by having an answer from Scripture, or your lack of understanding or lack of being able to defend that will actually confirm a person in some of their wrong beliefs.”

According to Alex, to really be on the cutting edge of education in today’s culture and respond to challenges is to base everything on God’s Word. It is important to train believers to defend the faith, live the faith, and make a difference for the biblical worldview.

“The problems we see in our nation – all of the left and right – comes down to your worldview,” says Andrew. “It’s the lens you see the world through. . . It’s two different worldviews, and that’s where we’re losing the battle.”
